Why did you nickname me?

, , , ...

The way you look or anything you do makes you get a nickname, either you get with it or you hate it. They reflect something peculiar of you but sometimes you don’t want to be reminded of it. Usually your classmates are the ones they put you the nickname, but something curios for me when living in the USA is that people asked you if they could call you that way.

That was very different from Mexico when people start asking you a way you don’t want to be called, while in the USA, because many reason like getting sued for many reasons, even one time I was asked if I could be called “Texas” because a shirt a brought to Team Sports class, they even thought I was from that place also because the different way I talked and looked.

3 centuries, 3 celebrations

, , , ...

During these months, Chihuahua is going to celebrate in 1 more year 3 centuries after its foundation, that is in 2009 and in 2010 it will celebrate, as with all Mexico the Independence (1810) and Revolution (1910) days; being a coincidence that those dates are close together.

To celebrate, there have been many things like the “Chihuahua saga” of lights and sound that consists of 15 minutes relating the story of the foundation of Chihuahua and its culture. Xavier de Richemont has done the scenery around the world and now its the turn to Chihuahua.

Blog Action Day 2008 - People in need

, , ,

Lately the world economy is getting worse and people are struggling to survive with everyday expenses. In many countries, including Mexico and the USA there are many people everywhere that cannot even get enough money to eat, and less to have a place to sleep, to have any belongings or to have leisure time.

Something that I find contradictory is that many people complain that they don't have enough money while they are spending a lot of money on luxuries like a cell phone with camera, MP3 player, internet, a new car, and to mention many things more.

In the USA I used to see many people asking for money in the downtown of big cities and I thought it was only in my country.

Many people has had many opportunities in their life but for some reason like they got robbed or a natural disaster took everything away, have become poor. While other people have wanted to stay the way they wanted their life to be.

How can we help people in need?

If you want to help someone, don't give them money, it is better to give them food or to provide help to get them to a place run by a group that will provide them some help. And I say that because in my city there is a guy that you can see in a wheelchair everyday, giving you the “pitiness look” so people give him money, and one family's friend told us that when he was at a concert and he was with a very expensive clothes and at the front seats...

Sometimes giving food is not welcome, like one day a person gave some tortillas to a boy in street and he took them but later when I needed to pass in the same street, he threw them away, like something worthless.

Other way is to donate money to groups or institutions that are dedicated to provide help to people in need, and usually it is tax deductible.

Helping others will not only help them to live better, it will also make you feel with yourself and make someone/s day.

It is not easy for men to rise whose qualities are thwarted by poverty.

Would it be ...?

, , , ...

What would you do if you suddenly lost contact of a loved one during many years and you tried to get information of them, even with the internet and it would be very difficult. What would happen if after many time looking you were sure that you found that person. How would you feel? Exasperated because that person has had you email, an old one you keep only waiting to get contacted by that person, and that person has never tried to send you an email? I would like to write that person’s name but I won’t do it and just want to see her again one more time.

Stolen flag and against the law

, , , ...

When reading the local newspaper, I noticed something strange in the upper corner and it was the Mexican flag modified that it should not be done and less for commercial thing, and the local newspaper was against other law, copyrights infringement. What the newspaper did is that it stole the image from a Mexican image designer. Of course, he was notified and he denounced them but not sued them and now it was removed from the newspaper, that of course it was put for the Mexican Independence Day (September 16th).
I forgot to say, that in Mexico being disrespectful with the patriotic symbols can get you a fine or in jail. Like one time a Mexican singer forgot the hymn and she and the organizers of the event got fines, in addition to the booing of the spectators. Also, you cannot use the patriotic symbols modified for commercial use and not for inappropriate use like a car-flag or flag-boxers or panties… the inverse of the very know American or British ones…
