Winter storm warning in effect. Tonight..Rain changing to snow at times heavy and blowing snow this evening. Snowfall amount 10 to 15 cm. Wind northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 increasing to 50 gusting to 70 late this evening.
Not even November yet and the snow begins.
What always makes me laugh about the first snowfall is ...the paranoia that ensues. This is afterall Canada, it does snow and yes this happens every year. The amount of news coverage on both the TV and radio is ridiculous.
Earlier today the city announced that all the snow plows are ready to clear the streets and even before the snow started they were out and looking for something to do. Regularly city hall complains about a lack of funds and here they are sending out plows!
The forecast for Thursday is sunny and +6, Friday ...+12 so why do we need snow plows on the road when it will all melt?
Just one of the many news stories can be found here.
I was sitting this morning and thinking about just how exciting my life is. Yes, real exciting ...at the time I was watching the rain drops in a puddle. Can you get any more exciting than that?
Sure I could have been watching the grass grow or watching paint dry but alas, there are no walls in here with wet paint and I'm wishing the grass would stop growing.
Then it hit me.
I haven't really posted much here in a week or more; just too much excitement going on you know. So here's a random smattering of ramblings.
Allrighty ...its the weekend and it didn't come soon enough. Not that I'm working much on anything at the moment, I just need a bit of a rest.
The Bluesfest is over for me, I don't think my body would handle much more of the walking around, the great music I've heard or the sun beating down. Last night on stage was Theory Of A Deadman rocking the crowds and playing before a packed audience. They were followed by Great Big Sea over on the main stage but I was more interested in Metric.
Organizers this year made a few boo boo's but overall this was another great success and the tunes were fantastic. Today is a recuperating day for me but that doesn't mean I'm going to do nothing
After a wet and at times electrically charged start to the day the evening turned out pretty nice. For most of the day we were under the influence of eledtrical storms, heavy rains and high winds; it was beginning to look like my plans for going to listen to Sue Foley were off.
Who in their right mind would stand outside in a lightning storm under a bunch of trees? Luckily the storms rolled on east and Sue rolled on stage.
If you've never been lucky enough to see her in concert, let me tell you, you don't know what you're missing. Energetic, entertaining and most of all one hell of a blues player, easy on the eyes as well. Foley’s powerhouse approach to writing and performing is distinguished by a smooth purr-to-growl vocal style wrapped around original songs and biting lead guitar work.
Next music event for me ...Blues Fest, July 3rd to 13th. The lineup this year isn't as great as last years but its definitely worth checking out. Steely Dan, Johnny Winter, Three Days Grace, The Black Crowes and Theory of a Dead Man all under the stars. Yep worth checking out.
