Ah well, nice to know that this blog is occasionally educational. It also makes me feel my age slightly, as it's another example of me knowing 'the original'. I haven't always. I mean, there are still some songs I associate more with the people who did the cover version than with the original. Can't think of a good example now, though.
Oh... one example of the opposite, not from the world of music, but of films. The Wickerman to me, is definitely the original, set on a Scottish isle, and not the remake.
An example of me not knowing/preferring the original, also in the film world, is Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, which, to me, is the seventies version, with Donald Sutherland, and not the original fifties version. I believe there's also a nineties version, but I haven't seen it. It's bound to be rubbish.
In unrelated news, in the year 2000, fewer than 2.4 million Smiths lived in the US, down from nearly 3.4 million in 1984.
