JETstar Pacific delays international routes

Vietnam’s first low cost airline - Jetstar Pacific will commence flying from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok (Thailand) and Siem Reap (Cambodia) from 19 December 2008.

The initial plan was Oct 31 for Bangkok route, and Nov 3 for Siem Reap route. These are first International routes of the Airline since it formed on May 23 this year.

The recent violence between Thai and Cambodian troops in Preah Vihear temple area and several strike in the city of Bangkok bring shadow of fear to travelers to those countries.

“Siem Reap and Bangkok are major tourism markets, with existing and projected strong future growth in South East Asia, we believe that the hard situation now will be ceased shortly making opportunities for passengers back to exploring Thailand and Cambodia with Jetstar Pacific”. Jetstar Pacific Chief Commercial Officer Ms. Nguyen Thuy Binh said.

From Vietnam, travelers can take Air Asia, Air France, Lufthansa, Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines to Bangkok. Vietnam Airlines operates 2 flights daily to Siem Reap from Hanoi, 1 from HCMC. Banana vendors in Siem Reap, Mekong river area.


The delay is almost 7 weeks till mid December, when tourists start to spend their Christmas and New Year holiday. "To avoid psychology effect and to ensure that passengers traveling will have a fully peace of mind, Jetstar Pacific has come to a decision that delays the launching time until 19 Dec 2008”, insisted Ms. Binh.

Jetstar Pacific advertised a competitive offer of USD 12 one way to Bangkok and USD 40 to Siem Reap earlier. Passengers who bought tickets to those destination will be allocated to fly with Bangkok Airways and Siem Reap Airway from Ho Chi Minh city until December 19, 2008.

Between June and July this year, the domestic routes between Hanoi - Da Nang and Hanoi - Hue postponed due to high price of world oil. Jetstar Pacific fleet possesses 05 Boeing 737-400, and is going to receive 01 Airbus A 320 in the coming months. The airline domestic routes currently are: Hanoi; Ho Chi Minh city; Da Nang and Nha Trang./.
