Opera Mini 4.1 final

, ,

First of all we would, again, like to thank all of you who helped us beta testing Opera Mini 4.1. You provided us with a lot of good feedback, and we are now ready to give you the full 4.1 version!

There are no big differences from the beta, but there are a lot of things that have happened behind the surface:
  • We have fixed a lot of bugs
  • Minor changes to saving pages
  • Several adjustments to auto-complete address input and upload/download
  • BlackBerry devices with old firmware now get Opera Mini 4.1 without JSR-75.

We all hope you enjoy the final version of Opera Mini 4.1!

Regards,
The Opera Mini team

Tried to install by clicking on the link, but opera mini 3 getting downloaded. Can you please paste the link for the final version of 4.1?

Got it!
For all motorokr z6 users- when you click on the download link, by default, the opera mini 3.1.2 download link appears. There you have got to select 'try opera 4.1'. From there download the unsigned version of 4.1. It should work.

The team needs to check the sponsored links and searches. I've just submitted a bug report about one that leads elsewhere. Unfortunately I'd deleted some of them already so couldn't check.

FONT SIZE: small option which was present in beta have been removed in final (such was with 4.0 too). Why?

I know it worked for English-only texts - there were squares instead of Polish fonts, but I prefered having such buggy option than not have it at all. It was pretty usable even with this bug.

Can we expect to get this option in final anytime soon?

For now, I am forced to stay with 4.1 beta, as I don't want to lose small font size option. :frown:

Does this, like all other versions of OM, require an installation which will not carry over any of my settings, bookmarks, cookies etc?

garyy811, it depends on your phone's capabilities.

Opera mini 4.1 (jar) for HTC S710 has a major bug! When i switch from keypads to qwerty keyboards he shut down my smartphone!

I've tried, all the bugs I've got with the 4.0 final are present in the 4.1 final also . Somehow, 4.1 beta working well, there's only one freeze point, any link which jumps to a part of a page (you know, with the "#") causes OM to hang.

With the new final version, I've tried open bloglines.com, gmail.com, during page load, the application stops working. Just weird.

I'm having more connection problems with it than i did the beta - if i leave it inactive for a while the connection drops and doesn't come back until i quit Mini. Meanwhile the built-in browser is fine.

I share d same prblm ov dwnloadng OM4.1...but i finally did after several tries! Needs patience really n its irritating. I also experienced prblm cnnectng 2d web as well, n my fone sumtimes shuts down when preparing 2 test. How is that? There have been occurences ov hanging too much like d older version. Overall, i thnk its faster n better. Thnks 2d efforts ov d OM team, i daresay. Lastly, i wud appreciate vry much if d skin be changed really into black.

Can it save pages? I use nokia 3230, there's no save menu. That will be great if I could save operamini pages

By Wongedan, # 16. May 2008, 04:00:32

avatar
Just click MENU, TOOLS, SAVE PAGE. You'll be directed to choose a folder to save pages in at first. It's best if you set up a seperate folder specially for them. To access saved pages go through the bookmarks to the saved pages folder.

By Furie, # 16. May 2008, 07:46:33

avatar
If you don't see 'Save page' in OM menu, then your phone does not support that feature: http://www.operamini.com/features/

Although yur phone should have support for jsr-75 according the manufacturer, it may still differ based on what firmware you have. Some carriers install their own tailored firmware on phones they sell.

I am using opera mini from more than past 1 year. Now they released 4.1version. I am using Nokia 3230 which have no JSR-75 feature means i can not save pages from opera or can not download upload files directly from this application. Means no many new things in this for me after version 4.0, except auto find & automatic address complete features. Still it is better than all older versions of Opera mini. I noticed many minor good changes in this software. There were no problems of freezing software for me at all. I tried everything of this software. Everything is working fine. I RECOMMEND ALL OF YOU TO INSTALL THIS APPLICATION IN PHONE MEMORY SO NO PROBLEMS OF FREEZING. Thank You

I wish 4 wishes in next version:

1) saving page in pc friendly format (html)
2) Ability to save images from web pages directly.
3) No more (error fetching file) message.
4) independent java virtual machine not affected by the mobile company or that of mobile.

I do not know what really happened, but. Last night, I've noticed that the (annoying) text at the top of every page ("new version available") just appeared in the Opera Mini 4.1 Beta. So I've decided to try it one more time the 4.1 Final version.

Downloaded, installed and everything works fine, no bugs, no freeze.
My phone is the same, my data plan is the same.

There was some kind of server-side fix, or what?
Nevermind, I'm happy with it.

I suggest that try to download and install again, if you have problems. For me, just worked like a charm.

Opera Mini doesn't support HTML. That's why it works on all these phones. It only supports a special format which is passed on from the Opera Mini servers that process the HTML. So Opera Mini itself can't process HTML. It is done by the server. If Opera Mini was to be able to process HTML, it would no longer be Opera Mini.

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking for. Are you suggesting that Opera should publish its own JVM and try to replace the JVM on all phones out there?

By haavard, # 21. May 2008, 10:37:25

avatar
Ok, concerning Html i don't ask opera to change its whole system i only ask for a more flexible application in which you can open html or obml and can save any web page in html that could be read on Pc . As a conclusion I mean some sort of "converter" from opera format (obml) to a universal one (html).

Concerning JVM I think that carrier may manipulate some setting of java or that its version on mobile phone may be old one not capable to run many websites so i mean a more support for java based website even if on a very old phones. Please try http://billing.telecomegypt.com.eg/TEService/Arabic/Customer_Bill_Inquiry.aspx and enter for example "045" and "2238526" from opera and from pc

Thanx

Opera Mini doesn't support Java, only JavaScript (with some limitations due to the server-client architecture). It runs on top of Java, but that's a different matter. The page you are referring to seems to be using JavaScript, though.

And as I said, Opera Mini can't open HTML because doing so would make it a full browser, and it would no longer be "Opera Mini". If you are requesting a separate application to convert from OBML to HTML, I'm afraid this blog post isn't really the appropriate place for that. Try the Opera Mini forum.

I've still got the beta installed, and in it, I get the "saved pages" option in the tools sub-menu, from which I get a list of all the pages I've saved. This option's gone in the final 4.1, I've got the save page option that lets me save the current webpage, not the saved pages list thing.

To view the pages I've saved, I first need to go to the homepage and use the saved pages link from there. Am I the only one getting this? I'm on a Nokia N80, which is a symbian 9.1 based s60v3 device.

No, you're not, everyone has that and it's (presumably) on purpose. What's wrong with the Saved Pages link on the Start Page? Same number of taps, Menu->Tools->Saved Pages, or Menu->Start Page->Saved Pages. In fact I personally only use the Tools menu to save pages, otherwise I either use the long-tap or Start Page.
