Tilting the Void

Wrecked among heathen dreams.

The weather, it sucketh every day...

Humorous Pictures
more animals We're drowning out here! This rain is unbelievable. Just went over to a friends to try and stop water from running down her wall. We weren't successful, although we did march around on her roof for a while in the dark. Jeebus! Send us some nice balmy weather for once, will ya? I haven't seen the sun since Labor Day...:furious:

Soup and sympathy.

When I was sick last year and confined to a couch, my friends brought me over some chicken soup with ginger, noodles, and shiitake mushrooms. I'm going to try and do my own version of it tonight--completely impromptu--but that's what I love about soup. It's done when you say it is.

It's going to have the following:

Chicken (duh)
Ginger, cut in slivers
Sliced shiitake mushrooms, fresh
Egg noodles, because I love them
Carrots, sliced
Celery, ditto
Chicken Broth (from a *gasp* can!)
And onions, sliced, plus salt and pepper to taste.

Then I'm going to let it simmer for awhile and think about traveling somewhere hot and dry on the Mediterranean or Aegean, where the water is bluer than the sky.

I'd so love to travel, but for now, I can only read about it and dream...

Off and running.

My efforts at running hit a few bumps last year--first off by coming down with pneumonia--and I never really got back on track. This year, though, I'm going all-out. I registered again for the Runnin' O' The Green, which I missed last year by having a 105 degree temperature. Today I ran/walked about 5 miles, and I can already tell a difference from last year--longer periods of running, faster walking, and shorter recovery times afterwards. I guess spending the last three months at the Y really helped! I'm only running in the 2 mile, which I know is wimpy--by March, I should be able to do a 5 mile no sweat (she says)--but I want to make sure I can finish. So--baby steps. I still can't quite contemplate anything so immense as a marathon or half-marathon--that's for the real athletes. I'll be happy to finish the fun run in March, and then see where I go from there.

I don't know why I'm focusing on running right now, except that I feel as if I need to do things--and not just running. Hiking, biking, moving around--gardening, bee bothering, etc.

As Dylan Thomas put it:

The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
Drives my green age; that blasts the roots of trees
Is my destroyer.

And I say more driving, less blasting!
