WALL-E in Celle

,

To celebrate our wedding anniversary we took the kids out to Celle to watch WALL-E. It was a good choice, everybody liked the movie. However when we went back to the car I noticed the following sign at the car park:

(Note: The full sign says NORDWALL EINGANG and means entrance to the Nordwall car park)

New Phone

,

I loved my Opera-K800i, however it turned out that I also killed it with too much (salty) water last year. It came back after I showered it in Croatia 2007, only one of the special photo buttons was dead, However it turned out that there was some bad stuff going on inside so lately it would turn off itself while you were talking and then you'd have to wait 30 mins until it would start again. Several more buttons were becoming unreliable and then it turned itself off when I wanted to take a picture of Sofie.

I now replaced it with a used Sony Ericsson P1i. I really like the phone, even the camera isn't too bad after an update to the latest firmware -- not as good as the K800i but good enough to be used as a mobile diary when we don't have our Lumix with us. UIQ can run some powerful apps and I like to connect via a Hot Spot and check mails and surf a bit. It doesn't crash too often but it restarted several times already. I think I can live with that, a firmware update with some more stability fixes would be welcome, though. I'm happy to report that the iSync plug-in from the Sony Ericsson website works. I also bought a 4 GB card and now I can carry around lots of music and still take tons of pics and videos. Of course I also looked for a Leopard'ish theme and found one that really looks good.

Touchscreen surfing with Opera Mini is great, still I hope that there'll be a version of Opera Mobile 9.5 for my phone aswell.

Summer Activities

, ,

It's about time to give you an idea of what we did throughout summer.

First of all I had four weeks off work this year. Only two of them really count as holidays, though. In the first week I was in Denmark because my grandmother (mormor) deteriorated and I wanted to help my mother to attend her. She died while I was there. We held her in our arms while it happened which was a gift given that we both live several hundred kms away from her in Germany. She was 87, still it makes me soooo sad that she's gone.

From the burial I drove 450 kms home, then we packed the car and I drove 800 more kms through the night until we reached Austria early in the morning. Then Olga drove us to our holiday destination on the isle of Krk in Croatia. There we had two sunny weeks (with three days of rain) and relaxed on the beach where we were last year. This year our appartment was in Silo on the other side of the island and it was big and great. We enjoyed the warm and crystal clear water and relexed as much as possible. I also read many of the books I had on my list. It was fantastic.

Last week Olga had another shoulder surgery because last years surgery after the car accident turned out to be unsuccessful. This time we were sent to a special hospital in Hannover and everything went much better than last year so far. While Olga was in hospital I cleaned up the house and exchanged some furniture. On Monday I went back to work. The kids have three more free weeks and play with their friends all the time. Oh and our ducks have four chicks this year.

In addition to the previews in this post I have uploaded some holiday pictures to this gallery.

Jonathan Hicks says hello to Opera 9.5 and Firefox 3.0

,

Last week both Opera and Firefox published new versions of their desktop browsers and now Jonathan Hicks said hello to both of them in a very nice review from the perspective of both a hardcore browser user and a hardcore mac user. I especially liked the following parts (from the perspective of a hardcore Opera user of course):

Opera’s new mac theme is a vast improvement too, although to be honest, any change to the previous theme would be an improvement.

First of all, Opera really wins on speed, hands down. It renders fast, and the interface is nimble.

Both are great, and the world is better off with them both of them around.

I agree with his comments about the current Opera Icon (especially when used in the dock). It would be great to see what he could do with it.
